Approve Change Order No. 1 on the 24” Aerial Water Main Crossing Stabilization Project (Credit $3,300):
At the November 2005 Board Meeting, the Board awarded construction of the 24” Aerial Water Main Crossing Stabilization Project to Howard Engineering & Construction, Inc. for $83,000.
The original scope of this project involved additional structural support and slope protection to the existing aerial crossing. During the process of executing contract documents, GRW Engineers, the project design engineer, contacted the Plant Board and recommended an alternate method of construction. Their recommendation was to install a new section of 24” main, laid in the creek bottom (subfluvial), as opposed to rehabilitating the existing concrete bridge.
As a matter of course, Staff directed GRW to prepare alternate plans and obtain pricing from the contractor. Howard Engineering & Construction proposed to construct the subfluvial alternate for $79,700, a cost savings of $3,300 compared to the rehabilitation of the existing crossing.
After consideration of both methods of construction, GRW is recommending that the subfluvial crossing be constructed.
