Approve Award of Bid Invitation #1390 (Annual Wood Poles - $91,225):

Staff recommends that the Board approve the award of Bid Invitation #1390 (Annual Wood Poles) to the best bidder meeting specifications, Brown Wood Company, in the amount of $91,225.

The apparent low bidders, Atlantic Wood and McFarland Cascade, added fuel surcharges based on the price of oil. Atlantic Wood also quoted an additional freight charge for the 80’ poles. These poles will be used to replenish depleting inventory.

Staff recommends that the Board approve the award of Bid Invitation #1391 (Annual Transformers) to the low bidder meeting specifications, Kuhlman Electric, in the amount of $77,516. These transformers will will be used to replenish depleting inventory.

Staff recommends that the Board approve the award of Bid Invitation #1392 (Annual Pipe & Fittings) to the low bidders meeting specifications as follows:

          Pipe to American Cast Iron Pipe Co. - $903,580
          Valves to Hayes Pipe Co. - $449,398.53
          Hydrants to Hayes Pipe Co. - $58,326.02
          Iron Fittings to American Cast Iron Pipe Co. - $92,100
          Tapping Sleeves to Hayes Pipe Co. - $109,686.88

These items will be used to replenish depleting inventory.

Staff recommends that the Board approve the award of Bid Invitation #1386 (Tree Trimming) to Asplundh Tree Expert Company.

This bid invitation was sent to five contractors: Light’s Enterprises, The Davey Tree Company, Vittitoe Tree Service, Townsend Innovative Clearing & Growth Control and Asplundh. Asplundh was the only contractor to respond. Our tree trimming services was bid in 2003. Pages 21 and 22 reflect the proposed rates and existing rates respectively.

The Plant Board has had a long history with Asplundh and is satisfied with their services.
