Approve Contract Labor Agreement with Universal Communications Corporation for Aerial Strand & Cable Placement on Owenton Road – Phase 2 ($18,080.50):

Staff requests approval of an agreement with Universal Communications Corporation in the amount of $18,080.50 to place aerial strand and cable to extend FSN services to the Owenton Road area. This Contractor performed similar work for us during the FSN upgrade and their work was very satisfactory.

Available FPB construction personnel are committed to meeting an unusually heavy demand for point-to-point dark fiber links coupled with a tremendous increase in residential & commercial development. They are currently placing fiber cable to activate three new point-to-point links and requests are pending for six additional links. There are presently ten Contract work orders under construction that will serve approximately 471 residential & commercial units. Seven more developments (approx. 546 units) are expected to begin construction in the next several months.

Expenditures are included in the FY 2006-2007 budget from the carry over of unexpended funds in FY 2005-2006 for Extensions/Upgrades. This agreement has been reviewed and found acceptable by the Staff Attorney and is contingent upon the FY 2006-2007 budget being approved.
